Alhagie Mbowe, the National Assembly member for Upper Saloum, recently donated 50,000 to the University of The Gambia Students’ Union.
The donation is earmarked for the UTGSU’s scholarships initiative, which is geared towards helping deserving students who struggle to pay their fees.
The UTGSU supports students by paying 40 per cent of their semester tuition, which is the minimum percentage a student must cover to be allowed to register courses for the semester.
An initiative developed very long ago by the student leaders of the UTG, the tuition support has been coming only once a year. However, for the first time, it is coming in both semesters (two times) of the academic year.
Mbow’s contribution is significant. The UTGSU “recognises this gesture as a strong demonstration of Hon. Mbowe’s commitment to youth empowerment and academic advancement”.
It also conveyed its utmost gratitude to Mr Mbowe for the timely intervention and his continued dedication to the welfare and development of students at the University of The Gambia.
