His Excellency Momodou Lamin Bah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of The Gambia to the United States of America with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Brazil, on Wednesday July 8, 2026 presented his Letters of Credence as Ambassador to His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Republic of Brazil.
The ceremony took place at the Presidential palace in Brasília, where Ambassador Bah was among a group of newly appointed envoys accredited to the Republic of Brazil.
Following the presentation of his Letters of Credence, Ambassador Bah conveyed fraternal greetings from His Excellency President Adama Barrow and the people of The Gambia to President Lula da Silva. Ambassador Bah observed that The Gambia and Brazil have excellent diplomatic relations which have continued to flourish since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1965. Ambassador Bah reaffirmed The Gambia’s commitment to strengthening its long standing bilateral relations with Brazil.

Prior to the official presentation of his Letters of Credence, Ambassador Bah held a bilateral meeting with the Secretary for Africa and the Middle East at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte. Ambassador Bah underscored The Gambia’s interest in deepening cooperation in agriculture and food security, trade and investment, education, technical and vocational training, tourism, culture, and technical cooperation. He noted that collaboration in these sectors would contribute significantly to sustainable economic growth, capacity building, job creation, and the realization of the shared development aspirations of both nations.
The Ambassador further used the opportunity to convey to Ambassador Duarte the appreciation of the Gambian community in Brazil for the hospitality extended to them by the Government and people of Brazil. He highlighted the Gambian community’s appeal for consideration to help address challenges they face when trying to regularize their immigration status as well as family reunification procedures. He assured that continued dialogue and cooperation between the two governments would help address these concerns.

For his part, Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte congratulated Ambassador Bah and extended best wishes during his tour of duty as Ambassador of the Republic of The Gambia to the Republic of Brazil. He reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries and expressed the Government of Brazil’s readiness to work closely with The Gambia in advancing collaboration in agriculture, trade and investment, education, technical cooperation, tourism, and other areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Duarte also acknowledged the positive contribution of the Gambian community in Brazil and assured Ambassador Bah that the concerns raised regarding the regularization of undocumented Gambian nationals and family reunification would be looked into for appropriate consideration. He reiterated Brazil’s commitment to maintaining an open dialogue with The Gambia in addressing issues of mutual interest and promoting stronger people-to-people ties.
