The Information Technology and Communication Association (ITCA) at the University of The Gambia recently paid a courtesy visit to the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) to discuss partnership, especially on developing technology-driven solutions to curb immigration challenges.
The recent courtesy visit explored ways to integrate or leverage technology and innovation to boost Gambia’s immigration system. The students were warmly received by the GID.
The development of a digital appointment booking system, queuing management system, migration tracking system and other technology-driven solutions were raised, alongside special emphasis on applying technology, data and research to address irregular migration challenges.
The meeting further explored opportunities for capacity-building on digital skills, such as data analysis, data management, information and communications and emerging technologies.
Moreover, the students solicited internships, attachments and other placements, technical support, and collaborative technology projects that can provide practical opportunities for students while contributing to improved service delivery at the Gambia Immigration.
Meanwhile, the GID encouraged the UTG-ITCA to develop and formally submit a comprehensive proposal outlining the identified areas of collaboration, which will serve as a foundation for further discussions towards a possible formal memorandum of understanding (MoU).
