Agriculture Minister and Second Vice President of the National People’s Party (NPP), Dr. Demba Sabally, has declared that the ruling party is making significant inroads in Foni ahead of the December 5 presidential election.
Speaking on political developments in the region, Dr. Sabally questioned the strength of opposition representatives in several Foni constituencies, pointing to their vote shares in the last election as evidence of what he described as limited electoral support. He noted that Foni Berefet is represented by Amie Colley of the NPP, while the National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang has vacated his seat to pursue a presidential bid.
Dr. Sabally further highlighted Foni Bondaly and Foni Jarrol, where opposition representatives secured victories with less than 30 and 35 percent of the vote respectively. He argued that these wins were the result of divided ballots among multiple candidates, rather than broad-based support.
Turning to Foni Kansala, he said the NPP had made progress in what has traditionally been a stronghold of Almam Gibba, the constituency’s National Assembly Member. Dr. Sabally also criticized Gibba’s claims regarding development projects in Foni, stressing that roads and electricity initiatives were delivered under President Adama Barrow’s administration, not by individual MPs.
On security, he dismissed suggestions that military checkpoints had been removed from Foni, insisting that personnel remain deployed in the area. He also underscored government support for agriculture, citing investments in community gardens and the distribution of equipment such as power tillers in the West Coast Region.
Dr. Sabally maintained that the scale of development projects implemented by the Barrow administration in Foni particularly in infrastructure and electricity represents significant progress. He urged voters in the region to support President Barrow in the upcoming election, calling on them to assess candidates based on their record and contributions to national development.
