Former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has announced that the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) will unveil its next flagbearer by the end of October 2026.
Speaking from his base in Equatorial Guinea, Jammeh addressed militants and supporters at Penchami Hall during the official launch of the No To Alliance Movement. He said the selection process will involve broad consultations with party executives, founding members, elders, and militants both at home and abroad.
Jammeh emphasised that the movement is not tribal, declaring: “No To Alliance is not a Jola movement. Tribalism is dead as far as I am concerned. We should know each other as Gambians.”
He urged supporters to put national interest above personal gain, stressing that nation-building requires sacrifice. “What belongs to somebody else is not my piece of pie. But what belongs to The Gambia, I will not let it go. I will bring it back at any cost,” he said.
The former president vowed to protect and recover what he described as The Gambia’s natural resources, promising to deliver “double” what he had pledged during his previous tenure. He outlined a vision of transforming the country into a highly developed and prosperous nation.
