His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Tuesday paid a surprise inspection visit to the ongoing construction of the new BB Bridge at Kotu, underscoring his government’s commitment to closely monitoring national infrastructure projects.
The President was accompanied by Hon. Ebrima Sillah, Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, along with senior officials from the National Road Authority. The visit provided an opportunity to assess first-hand the progress of works on the strategically important bridge, which is expected to restore a vital connection between Kotu and Fajara, while improving access to hotels, businesses, markets, and surrounding communities.
The project, contracted to Longjian Road & Bridge Company, is being constructed along a new alignment with an overall length of approximately 420 metres, including a 24-metre bridge structure. Significant progress has been made since construction commenced, with 28 of the 30 foundation piles already completed. Piling works have reached depths of 12.5 to 13 metres below ground level, paving the way for reinforcement, concreting, pile caps, walls, beams, and eventually the bridge slab.
Once completed, the new Kotu BB Bridge is expected to ease movement within the Kotu–Fajara corridor and support tourism, commerce, and other economic activities in one of the country’s key tourism zones.
President Barrow’s inspection highlights the government’s emphasis on ensuring quality implementation of infrastructure projects that respond to the needs of communities and contribute to the wider economy.
