Judiciary Trains 166 Judiciary Support Staff on High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 202

The Judiciary of The Gambia, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union (EU) under the EU-UNDP GREAT PROJECT, has commenced a two-day training for Registrars, Assistant Registrars, Clerks and Scribes of the Court on the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules. The training, which began today, Thursday, 1st October, 2026, will run until Friday, 2nd October, 2026, focusing on the effective and consistent application of The new High Court Rules.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on behalf of the UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Mandisa Mashologu, UNDP Project Specialist James P. Monibah stressed that efficient, transparent and accessible courts depend not only on sound laws and judicial decisions, but also on competent court administrators who properly apply established procedures. Adding that the training forms part of UNDP’s broader support to justice-sector reform, including judicial infrastructure, digital case management, legal aid and alternative dispute resolution.

Mr. Monibah further commending the leadership of the Hon. Chief Justice and the Judiciary for championing this important initiative, which helps to strengthen The Gambia’s democratic governance and the rule of law.

The session was officially opened on behalf of the Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Edi M. O. Faal, by Justice Sainabou Wadda-Cisse, Justice of the Court of Appeal.

Justice Wadda-Cisse encouraged participants to actively engage with facilitators and contribute to discussions. Justice Wadda Cisse highlighted that the training would enable participants familiarize with the 2026 High Court Civil Procedure Rules, which introduce important changes aimed at addressing procedural gaps and responding to the changing legal landscape.

Also present at the training were the Master and Registrar of the High Court, Ms. Mben Faal, Esq. and Deputy Judicial Secretary (Legal) Mr. Ebrima Jallow, Esq. The training is expected to strengthen procedural compliance, improve registry efficiency, enhance case management and help reduce delays in the justice system.

The Judiciary expressed its appreciation to the EU and UNDP for their continued collaboration and support through the EU-UNDP GREAT PROJECT to the justice sector.
