The ART27 Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery & Creative Hub has announced plans for a landmark art exhibition to mark its grand opening on December 1, 2026, signaling a bold new chapter in The Gambia’s contemporary art scene.

The exhibition, titled “BIG & BOLD Touring Exhibition 2026/27”, will inaugurate ART27’s newly established permanent gallery space in Tujereng, West Coast Region. The 360-square-metre facility will serve as a dynamic hub for creativity and cultural exchange, showcasing large-scale works produced by resident artists.

According to Mr. Ferenc Donderer, founder of the ART27 Artist Group and owner of the gallery, the exhibition will feature approximately 25-30 paintings in a 100x140cm format. These pieces were created during the ART27 Residency Program, which launched earlier this year. The touring exhibition will run for four weeks at the new gallery in Tujereng before embarking on a regional tour, with scheduled stops in Senegal and other West African destinations.

“This is more than just an exhibition; it is a statement of intent,” said Mr. Donderer. “We are building sustainability for Gambian fine arts, creating visibility for our artists, and positioning The Gambia as a serious player in the regional art landscape.” The ART27 Residency Program, which began in June 2026, has already attracted both emerging and established artists from across the region. With the upcoming exhibition,

He explained that ART27 aims to cement its role as the leading platform for innovation, collaboration, and cultural pride in The Gambia. Beyond the immediate showcase, ART27’s long-term vision for its Creative Hub includes educational programmes, youth support initiatives, artist exchanges, and the continued expansion of its residency model.

As anticipation builds, the December event is expected to draw art lovers, collectors, critics, and cultural stakeholders from across the region, offering a rare opportunity to witness the vibrancy of Gambian contemporary fine arts on a grand scale
