Governor Bah urges TAC in URR to unite for national progress

Governor Samba Bah, of Upper River Region (URR), has called on members of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) in the Upper River Region (URR) to work together in the best interest of the country, stressing that unity and reform are essential for both institutional well-being and national development.

Speaking at a recent Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) gathering supported by the Actionaid International the Gambia, Governor Bah emphasised the need for institutional changes, reminding heads of institutions that their leadership carries a responsibility to drive progress and accountability.

He raised serious concerns about reports that medical personnel in the region had been threatened when attempting to expose cases of sexual abuse. The Governor underscored that such issues must be addressed transparently and with urgency, as they directly affect the trust and safety of the public.

Governor Bah further reminded public servants of their role, stating: “We are not here to antagonize as public servants.” Instead, he urged officials to embrace cooperation, integrity, and service to the people.

Governor Bah emphasised that leaders of institutions in URR must embrace institutional changes to strengthen governance and ensure that public service remains focused on national progress. He reminded officials that their positions carry a responsibility not only to manage but also to transform systems for the betterment of the people.

The Governor’s remarks carry weight beyond the Upper River Region. They signal a growing recognition that national progress depends on local institutions working effectively and transparently. By addressing both systemic reforms and sensitive social issues, Governor Bah is positioning URR as a test case for how regional governance can align with national priorities.

His remarks highlight a broader call for reform and accountability in URR, with a focus on protecting vulnerable groups, strengthening institutions, and ensuring that governance serves the collective good.
