NaNA and UNICEF Hold Nutrition Sector Review to Shape Priorities for 2024–2028

The National Nutrition Agency (NaNA), in collaboration with UNICEF The Gambia, has convened a Nutrition Sector Review as part of UNICEF’s 2024–2028 Country Programme Mid-Term Review.

The high-level meeting brought together government officials, development partners, and civil society stakeholders to assess progress, reflect on achievements and challenges, and agree on priority actions to strengthen nutrition interventions for the remainder of the programme period.

UNICEF Deputy Country Representative, Armand Gnahore, emphasized the importance of scaling up high-impact interventions, prioritizing the most vulnerable children, and aligning programmes with The Gambia’s national development priorities and UNICEF’s global strategic plan.

He underscored that child rights and the right to nutrition must remain central to efforts aimed at improving children’s well-being.

NaNA’s Director General, Malang N. Fofana, called for stronger coordination, accountability, and collective action. He highlighted the need for strategic refocusing of interventions based on lessons learned, closing implementation gaps, and aligning with national priorities and global standards.

He further noted that the forthcoming National Position Paper on Nutrition Implementation will serve as a roadmap to set clear, evidence-based priorities.

The outcomes of the review will feed into UNICEF’s broader Mid-Term Review and help shape strategic priorities to improve nutrition outcomes for children in The Gambia through 2028.

Together, NaNA, UNICEF, and partners reaffirmed their commitment to building a healthier Gambia where every child has access to the nutrition, they need to thrive
