In the wake of a recent road crash involving a Gambia Transport Service Company (GTSC) bus near Kalagi, West Coast Region, the Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah, Tuesday led a delegation to the site of the accident.
The delegation comprised Deputy PS for Transport, the managing director of the National Roads Authority, GTSC Board chairman and the general manager.
The delegation later visited accident victims hospitalised at the Bwiam General Hospital where a meeting with the health facility’s management centred around the high spate of road accidents in that part of the country and urgent measures that can be taken to address the increasingly worrying situation for both health authorities and the travelling public.
Minister Sillah said engineers from the National Roads Authority were deployed to the crash site to establish what safety measures could be taken to avert future occurrences in the area.
“We are in this together. We will continue to take care of the medical bills of those involved, and a financial token will also be provided to support their upkeep. Our heartfelt sympathies are with the bereaved families,” he said.
It would be recalled that the August 11 Road accident involving a GTSC bus around Kalagi resulted in the deaths of Kudang native Oumie L. Ceesay and Yahya Mballow of Wellingara Kejew.
“The Board and Management of GTSC are deeply saddened by this tragic incident and remain in constant contact with both the authorities and the bereaved families as we condole with them in these trying times,” a GTSC statement said.
