The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has ushered in a new chapter in its mission to safeguard the nation’s borders with the graduation of 599 newly trained officers. The ceremony, held with pomp and pride, was not only a celebration of successful completion of training but also a recognition of excellence across multiple dimensions of service.
From academics to discipline, physical fitness to self-defence, recruits who distinguished themselves were honoured before their peers, dignitaries, and proud families.
Honouring Excellence
Among the male recruits, Recruit 2716, Momodou L. Jallow, stood tall as the Overall Most Outstanding Male Recruit. His achievement was complemented by Recruit 2699, Landing Janneh, and Recruit 2733, Yankuba Marenah, who earned the Second and Third Most Outstanding Male Recruit awards.
For the female recruits, Recruit 2721, Binta Cesay, was celebrated as the Most Outstanding Female Recruit. She was joined by Recruit 2112, Kaddy Cesay, and Recruit 2860, Isatou Susso, who received the Second and Third Most Outstanding Female Recruit honours.
Discipline, a cornerstone of immigration service, was highlighted with Recruit 2695, Pa Demba Mboob, named Most Disciplined Male Recruit, and Recruit 2778, Jarra Mbye, recognized as the Most Disciplined Female Recruit.
Physical endurance was equally celebrated. Recruit 2917, Saikou Bass, earned the title of Fittest Male Recruit, while Binta Sanneh was honoured as the Fittest Female Recruit.
In the self-defence category, Recruit 2851, Nuha H.A. Jarju, was recognized as the Most Outstanding Male Recruit in Self-Defence, while Recruit 2770, Fatoumata Baldeh, received the Most Outstanding Female Recruit in Self-Defence award.
Building Capacity for National Security
The graduation ceremony was more than a recognition of individual achievements; it was a testament to the GID’s commitment to professionalism and capacity-building. With 599 officers now ready to serve, the department is poised to strengthen its operational capacity in border management and immigration services.
Officials emphasised that these recruits represent the future of The Gambia’s immigration system — a workforce trained not only in technical skills but also in discipline, resilience, and integrity.
As the newly minted officers’ step into their roles, they carry with them the responsibility of protecting the nation’s borders and upholding the values of service and professionalism.
