IGP Touray hosts Chief Fire Officer at office in Banjul

The Inspector General of Police, Seedy Mukhtar Touray, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, welcomed the newly appointed Chief Fire Officer and Deputy Chief Fire Officer of the The Gambia Fire and Rescue Service during a courtesy visit at the Police Headquarters in Banjul.

The engagement served as an opportunity for both institutions to strengthen ties, enhance coordination, and promote effective collaboration.

During the meeting, the Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Yaya S.D. Sonko, conveyed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police for the warm reception, particularly during the ongoing transition period. He emphasised the need to further consolidate the existing partnership between the two services.

Also speaking, the Chief Fire Officer, Masaneh S.K. Bah, provided an overview of the Service’s four principal operational units and their respective functions. He acknowledged the longstanding relationship between the two institutions, noting that since the establishment of the GFRS in 1948, many of its personnel have originated from the Gambia Police Force. He underscored the continued importance of the GPF’s role in offering guidance, support, and institutional backing.

In his response, the Inspector General expressed gratitude to the delegation for the visit and encouraged personnel to rally behind the new leadership. He further advised the Chief Fire Officer to give priority attention to staff welfare, highlighting its significance in boosting morale and enhancing productivity.

The Gambia Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strong collaboration with sister security services in advancing national security and service efficiency.
