VP Jallow Meets NaNA Board, Reaffirms Commitment to Nutrition in The Gambia

His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, yesterday received the Board of the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) at State House during its routine six-month briefing on the Agency’s progress, challenges, and strategic priorities.

Board Chairperson Musukuta Komma described the engagement as part of NaNA’s accountability process, providing updates on its oversight role, achievements, and areas requiring government support.

A major highlight of the briefing was the successful development of NaNA’s costed Strategic Plan, following the enactment of the National Nutrition Act. The Board also announced plans to launch the fourth-generation National Nutrition Policy and Strategic Plan, urging communities, institutions, and development partners to rally behind its implementation.

Komma rated NaNA’s performance at over 90 percent in execution and compliance, attributing the achievement to strengthened governance systems, improved accountability, and robust policy frameworks that ensure resources are effectively managed for the benefit of Gambians.

The Board further appealed for increased investment in financial and human resources, particularly in the training of nutritionists and dieticians, to address the country’s growing double burden of malnutrition.

Vice President Jallow commended the Agency’s progress, reaffirmed his support for its mandate, and encouraged the Board to expedite the development of outstanding regulations while exploring innovative ways to strengthen the Agency’s sustainability.
