ART27 Residency Program: Carolyne Jocobs Unveils New Wildlife Collection

Carolyne Jocobs, a distinguished member of the ART27 Residents program, has announced the completion of a striking new collection of twelve works to be showcased at the upcoming gallery opening.

The series includes six acrylic-on-canvas pieces celebrating the vibrancy and majesty of African wildlife, alongside six large-scale, dynamic works created during her studio residency. Together, the collection reflects Jocobs’ evolving artistic vision and her commitment to capturing both cultural heritage and contemporary expression.

Speaking ahead of the exhibition, Jacobs shared her excitement: “I am thrilled for the grand opening of the gallery a long-awaited milestone that reflects Ferenc Donderer’s tireless dedication. I fully support this initiative and look forward to the journey ahead.”

The gallery’s opening marks a significant cultural moment, highlighting the power of residency programs like ART27 in nurturing creativity and fostering artistic exchange.

“My expectation is that this opening will shine a light on the incredible creativity and rich artistic talent in The Gambia, giving local artists the visibility and platform they truly deserve,” said Carolyne Jacobs, a devoted member of the ART27 studio residency. “I am proud to support this milestone event and excited for what it means for the arts scene in The Gambia.”

Jacobs’ connection to ART27 began while searching for a collaborative art hub near her compound in Gunjur. A chance introduction to Christina Pearson, also a member of the ART27-Artist Group, led her to Ferenc Donderer. Their shared vision quickly grew into a partnership, with Jacobs even sourcing art materials from the Canary Islands to support the initiative. When Ferenc Donderer revealed the premises for the gallery, Carolyne Jacobs immediately recognised the potential for a vibrant creative hub.

Ahead of the exhibition, Jacobs advises ART27 Members to embrace the collaborative spirit of the new gallery: “By supporting one another and bringing our best energy to the launch, we can show locals and tourists alike the depth of creative talent in our community and maximize this long-awaited achievement.”

However, she said the opening of ART27 Gallery is not only a celebration of art but also a testament to resilience, collaboration, and vision. It signals a new era for Gambian artists, offering them a permanent space to create, share, and inspire.
