United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Lawyer Ousainou A.N.M. Darboe has called on Gambians to prioritize national interest over ethnic considerations in the upcoming December 2026 presidential election.
Speaking to party supporters and residents in Lower River Region (LRR), as part of the UDP’s ongoing outreach activities, Darboe emphasised that the election should be about leadership, governance, and accountability rather than tribal affiliations.
“This is not an election for Mandinka, Fula, Wollof or Jola. Instead, it belongs to all the ethnic groups in the country,” Darboe told the gathering. “I am contesting for this election not to enrich myself but to solve the long-term problems of our nation.”
He urged voters to assess candidates based on their leadership qualities, track records, and commitment to transparency in managing public resources. According to him, the future of The Gambia depends on electing leaders who can unite the nation and address pressing challenges.
Darboe’s remarks come as political parties intensify their outreach efforts across the country in preparation for the December polls.
