United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and presidential candidate Ousainou Darboe has called on Gambians in the diaspora to mobilise resources, influence voters, and return home to support his campaign, stressing that the party’s sole mission ahead of December’s presidential election is to defeat President Adama Barrow.
“Finally, I want all of us to be absolutely focused on the singular task at hand and that is the urgent national duty of defeating Adama Barrow in December. He is the only opponent in this contest,” Darboe declared. “I urge every single one of you, at all times and under all circumstances, to focus on Adama Barrow and his NPP allies.”
Darboe accused the Barrow administration of corruption and warned that the government’s desperation to cling to power stems from fear of accountability. “We have a corrupt and failed administration that is desperate to cling unto power because they are aware that defeat would not only stop at loss of power, but it would also trigger accountability,” he said.
As campaigning intensifies, Darboe urged his supporters to remain disciplined and avoid responding to insults, allegations, or provocations directed at him or the UDP. He argued that Gambians are more interested in solutions than political exchanges. “As strong as that instinct might be, I urge you not to respond because an uncontested lie is still a lie, and instead of responding to lies, you will better help our campaign by amplifying our truths,” he advised.
Darboe reiterated that the UDP is not competing against other opposition parties, but solely against President Barrow and his National People’s Party (NPP). “Never forget we have only one opponent, and that is Adama Barrow. We are not competing against anyone in the opposition. We wish them well in their pursuits,” he concluded.
