The Gambian Alliance for National Development Integrity Order and Leadership (GANDIOL) has inaugurated its latest micro business grant initiative, awarding a total of $11,000 to 11 entrepreneurs across the Greater Banjul Area.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday at the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), brought together officials from GANDIOL, business leaders, and dignitaries to celebrate the empowerment of small-scale enterprises.
Speaking at the event, Basiru Deen, Chief Executive Officer of GANDIOL emphasised the organization’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and supporting grassroots economic development. The grants, he noted, are designed to provide seed capital for innovative business ideas and to strengthen existing ventures.
Babucarr Saho, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), delivered a stirring address at the evaluation of a new entrepreneurial initiative, underscoring the chamber’s historic role and its evolving mission to support business growth in the country.
Mr. Saho, speaking before a gathering of business leaders and partners, reflected on his multiple roles as a senior official of GCCI, as a business operator, and as a long-time friend of Basiru Deen founder. He emphasised the importance of building familiarity and partnerships within the private sector, noting that such relationships are vital for national economic progress.
The event also carried a personal note, as Mr. Adama Deen shared reflections on his own life journey and the impact it has had on his family and colleagues. He recalled leaving The Gambia in 1979, a moment etched in his memory alongside significant national events, and expressed gratitude for being able to reconnect with his son Basiru Deen, who has chosen to return home and contribute to the country’s development.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting how the funds will help them expand operations, create jobs, and contribute to community growth. The initiative reflects GANDIOL’s broader mission of promoting integrity, leadership, and sustainable development in The Gambia.
GCCI’s involvement underscored the importance of collaboration between civil society and the private sector in driving national progress. With this grant program, GANDIOL continues to position itself as a key partner in advancing economic opportunities for Gambians.
