Trade Minister Mod K. Ceesay has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening local manufacturing by assessing the needs and challenges of industries across the country.
Speaking on Saturday during an industrial tour organised by the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Minister Ceesay said the government will continue to identify areas where support is required to enhance productivity and competitiveness.
The tour, which covered four industries in the Greater Banjul Area, was designed to give the Ministry and GIEPA firsthand insight into the operations, challenges, and contributions of local industries to the Gambian economy.
Minister Ceesay noted that such engagements are vital for shaping policies that respond directly to the realities of manufacturers. He emphasised that the government’s role is not only to regulate but also to create an enabling environment for industries to thrive.
Officials from GIEPA highlighted that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote investment, support export growth, and ensure that Gambian industries remain resilient in the face of global economic pressures.
