His Excellency President Adama Barrow emphasised that access to electricity is a right and not a privilege. He made the remark during a tour of NAWEC facilities at Brikama and Kori power stations earlier today.
The President stressed that government has a duty to ensure reliable and affordable power supply for all Gambians. In response to ongoing electricity shortage, President Barrow urged citizens to stay patient and continue supporting the government’s efforts. He confirmed that all available resources and reserves are being mobilised to address the electricity problem and that public concerns continue to receive the attention they need. He also assured that by the end of October; Gambians will start to see noticeable improvements in power supply with the commissioning of a new generator already procured and is being transported to the country.
It is worth noting that the energy sector has made significant progress over recent years. Electricity access increased from 36% in 2017 to 90% today.
The visit is part of the government’s strengthened efforts to tackle the current electricity problems in a sustainable way.
