President of the Republic of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, is expected to preside over the inauguration of the newly constructed Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Lot 9 Sanyang Seaside Road Project on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, in the West Coast Region.
The inauguration will mark the commencement of a series of commissioning ceremonies for newly completed, government-funded road projects scheduled to take place across the country throughout September.
The 4.5-kilometre Sanyang Seaside Road was constructed by Zen Construction Ltd under the supervision of the National Roads Authority (NRA). The project forms part of the Government’s continued investment in road infrastructure to improve connectivity, mobility and access to key economic and social destinations across the country.
The newly constructed road features concrete-paved carriageways, drainage infrastructure on both sides of the road and streetlighting, providing a modern and safer connection between communities and the Sanyang coastal area.
The road links the Brusubi–Kartong Highway to the Sanyang seaside, creating a more direct and improved route to one of the area’s important tourism and economic destinations.
The completion of the project is expected to significantly improve road safety, accessibility and mobility for residents and road users. It will also enhance access to the Tourism Development Area, facilitating the movement of tourists, visitors, businesses, and residents.
Beyond improving transportation, the road is expected to contribute to local economic activity by providing better access to businesses and tourism-related facilities along the Sanyang coastline. Improved road connectivity is also anticipated to support the development and expansion of commercial activities in the area.
For residents, the project is expected to reduce difficulties associated with accessing the seaside, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall, while providing a more reliable route for vehicles and pedestrians.
The Sanyang Seaside Road is among several road projects being delivered under the Government’s broader road infrastructure development programme. The programme is aimed at expanding and upgrading the national road network, strengthening connectivity between communities and improving access to critical social and economic services.
The commissioning of the Sanyang Seaside Road therefore represents another milestone in the Government’s ongoing efforts to deliver modern road infrastructure capable of supporting economic growth, tourism development, improved mobility and enhanced quality of life for communities across The Gambia
