Vice President Mohammed BS Jallow, speaking on behalf of President Adama Barrow, has urged ECOWAS Member States to strengthen regional cooperation, fair competition, and effective market governance as key drivers of sustainable growth and shared prosperity across West Africa.
Delivering remarks on Tuesday, September 15, at the inaugural conference of the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA) in Banjul, VP Jallow emphasized that competitive and well-regulated markets are vital to protecting consumers, empowering businesses, and unlocking opportunities for women and young entrepreneurs.
“The Gambia remains firmly committed to ERCA,” Jallow declared, reaffirming the government’s support, including the allocation of land for the Authority’s permanent headquarters. He called for deeper collaboration among Member States and development partners to ensure ERCA fulfills its mandate.
Highlighting the broader vision, Jallow noted: “Regional integration and competitive markets are the bedrock of West Africa’s economic future.”
The conference marked a significant step in advancing ERCA’s mission to promote fair competition and regional market integration, with stakeholders agreeing that stronger frameworks will help build resilient economies and foster inclusive development across the ECOWAS region.
