Gambian lawmaker elected to executive committee of Parliamentarians for Global Action

Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, Deputy Majority Leader of the National Assembly of The Gambia, has been elected to the Executive Committee of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) for the 2026–2027 term, marking a significant milestone for the country’s parliamentary diplomacy and international engagement.

His election took place during the 46th Annual Forum and 4th CAP-Oceans meeting of the Parliamentarians for Global Action, held in Mexico City, which brought together legislative leaders from 18 countries to deliberate on pressing global issues, including democracy, human rights, and international cooperation.

Hon. Ceesay joins a distinguished and diverse Executive Committee comprising parliamentarians from across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

The Committee is led by Syed Naveed Qamar, who was re-elected as President, alongside other key figures entrusted with steering the organisation’s global legislative agenda.

The Secretary-General of Parliamentarians for Global Action, Mónica Adame, described the newly constituted leadership as a diverse, cross-party team that embodies the organisation’s global reach and shared commitment to advancing democratic values.

For The Gambia, Hon. Ceesay’s election is expected to strengthen the National Assembly’s engagement with international parliamentary networks, enhance knowledge exchange, and contribute to the advancement of legislative best practices.

The Executive Committee plays a central role in guiding the strategic direction of Parliamentarians for Global Action, particularly at a time global cooperation and democratic resilience remain critical priorities.
