The leader of the With Alliance for Reorientation and Economic Force (WAREF), Mohamed Al Amin Bah, on Sunday officially declared the party’s intention to contest the 2026 presidential election and unveiled a long-term national development blueprint dubbed “Vision 2045: One Vision, One Nation, One Gambia.”
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Sea View Hotel in Kololi,Bah described the document as more than a political programme, saying it represents a national vision aimed at transforming The Gambia into a prosperous, innovative, secure and inclusive country by 2045.
Addressing party supporters, Bah said WAREF was established to provide practical solutions to the country’s development challenges, including unemployment, the rising cost of living, limited opportunities for young people and pressure on public services.
He said the party would enter the 2026 presidential race with what he called a clear vision, practical policies and a committed team prepared to serve the country.
“We are entering this election because we believe we have a clear vision, practical solutions and a committed team prepared to serve our country,” Bah told the gathering.
A central pillar of the proposed Vision 2045 is economic transformation through investment in agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, technology, logistics and renewable energy. Bah argued that the country’s greatest resource is its people and stressed the need to create opportunities for entrepreneurship, private sector growth and job creation.
Among the flagship initiatives highlighted during the presentation was a proposed National Moringa Biodiesel Project, which he said would explore the potential of locally cultivated moringa to create employment opportunities in farming, processing, transport, research and manufacturing while contributing to energy sustainability.
Bah also outlined plans to strengthen tourism through year-round visitor attractions, ecotourism, cultural heritage promotion and improvements in tourism infrastructure.
On education, he pledged support for improved learning environments, enhanced teacher training, expanded technical and vocational education and greater use of technology in classrooms. He said young people must be given the skills and opportunities needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.
The WAREF leader further emphasized the importance of accountable governance, strong institutions, national security and social cohesion, arguing that sustainable development can only be achieved through transparency, citizen participation and respect for democratic values.
Concluding the launch, Bah called on citizens, businesses, civil society organizations, development partners and the Gambian diaspora to play an active role in national development, describing nation-building as a shared responsibility.
He said Vision 2045 is ultimately a commitment to progress, unity and long-term development, and urged Gambians to join what he called a collective journey toward a stronger and more prosperous future
