President Adama Barrow has called on graduates of the University of Science, Engineering and Technology (USET) to use their skills to transform The Gambia’s developmental aspirations into reality. Speaking at the institution’s 2nd Convocation, the President underscored the strategic role of USET in shaping the country’s future.
“My government established USET to act decisively on developmental considerations and the aspirations of our nation,” Barrow said. He highlighted the country’s coastlines, expanding road networks, growing industries, and vast agricultural potential as opportunities that demand innovative solutions from the new generation of engineers.
Barrow stressed that USET was not created merely to produce graduates, but to produce “the right graduates” — professionals capable of designing drainage systems suited to West African conditions, optimizing renewable energy installations, and maintaining industrial machinery. “Without such engineers, our national aspirations will remain plans on paper,” he warned.
The President urged the graduating class to leverage their knowledge and skills to improve the lives of Gambians and ensure sustained national progress. He also expressed satisfaction with USET’s modern laboratories and learning facilities, which he said would foster innovation, entrepreneurship, research, and job creation.
The convocation marked another milestone for USET, reinforcing its mission to align higher education with the country’s developmental priorities.
