The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Habibatou Drammeh, has issued a public apology following criticism of remarks she made about leadership and the management of national challenges.
Speaking recently in support of President Adama Barrow, Dr. Drammeh questioned the leadership capacity of some individuals aspiring to govern The Gambia. She also highlighted challenges such as waste collection and accused certain political figures of celebrating amid the country’s difficulties rather than offering solutions.
Her comments drew sharp reactions from members of the public, prompting the minister to release a statement of regret.
“While my intention was simply to share my enthusiasm and support for President Adama Barrow, I recognize that my words landed differently than expected and caused hurt to some,” she said. “It is never my intention knowingly or unknowingly to cause pain. To anyone who felt offended or hurt by my message, please accept my sincere and heartfelt apology.”
Dr. Drammeh emphasized that her office remains open to feedback, criticism, and constructive dialogue. She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting President Barrow’s agenda and improving the work of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
